Curriculum
The aims of the curriculum are to ensure that all children are provided with learning opportunities that recognise and celebrate their uniqueness, develop their full potential. The focus is on the child as learner, and the use of a variety of teaching methodologies is an essential feature of the curriculum. The curriculum emphasises the need for greater attention to be paid to students with special educational needs and emphasises the importance of achieving functional literacy and numeracy. It also draws attention to the needs of gifted children.
English Second Language
Knowing an additional language is not only an added skill but also an added cognitive attribute that changes the individual’s perspective of the world. Language learning works on several levels of a child’s intellectual growth and it is said that bilinguals have a much greater ability to think and act fast, to come up with innovative solutions to problems and to adapt more easily to different environments. GKVS is one of the few best schools in Bangalore offering best English beginning from the child’s tender age of 5 and 6. Our young language learners learn a language of their choice as a second language or an additional language and go on to acquire all four skills, reading, writing, speaking and comprehension over the years.
Art and Design
In Art, pupils experience working with a wide range of different mediums such as clay, plaster, print, fabric, paper, glue, pastels and paint. They can study and learn about the work of specific artists and explore 2D and 3D work. We welcome many visiting artists to the school who work with the pupils and teachers in developing themes.
Music
In music, students develop their skills in composing, performing and listening. They are taught using a range techniques and resources including the use of interactive whiteboards, circle time music making with the Sing Up School Choir.
Physical Education
GKVS School is providing physical education both inside and outside of schools is crucial in helping young people to learn and develop life skills. Physical education in the school system A number of crucial components to the delivery of quality education have been identified by UNICEF. These include sport and opportunities for play, consistent with the rights of the child to optimum development. Despite recognition of the positive impact sport has on education and child development, physical education is being increasingly challenged within education systems across the world.
